Sweet and Sour Prawns Recipe

Ingredients for Prawns Batter

  • Prawns, Shelled & Deveined – 1/2 Kg
  • Soy Sauce – 1 Tablespoon
  • Ginger and Garlic Paste – 1 Tsp
  • All purpose Flour – 1/2 Cup
  • Corn Flour – 1/2 Cup
  • Salt – 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Baking Powder – 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Cold Water: 1 Cup
  • Oil: For Deep Frying

Ingredients for Sweet and Sour Sauce

  • Oil – 1 Tablespoon
  • Garlic, crushed – 1 Teaspoon
  • Ginger, crushed – 1 Teaspoon
  • Tomato Ketchup – 1 Cup
  • Chilli Powder – 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Sugar – 1 Tablespoon
  • Chicken Stock/Water – 1 Cup
  • White Pepper Powder – 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Vinegar – 2 Tablespoon
  • Soy Sauce – 1 Tablespoon
  • Corn Flour – 2 Tablespoon
  • Capsicum Cubes – 1/2
  • Onion Cubes – 1/2
  • Tomato Quartered – 1

Directions for Prawns Batter

  1. Clean the deveined prawns and refrigerated.
  2. On medium temperature, heat some oil in a wok.
  3. In a mixing bowl combine all the ingredients. Whisk them well to form a batter.
  4. Add prawns into this batter and deep fry them till they turn golden brown.

Directions for Sweet and Sour Sauce

  1. In a wok or pan heat some oil and saute ginger and garlic.
  2. Add Ketchup, sugar and chilli powder. Cook while stirring till it starts sticking to the pan.
  3. Add chicken stock/water, white pepper, soy sauce, vinegar and bring it to a full boil
  4. Mix cornflour with 1/2 cup of water and pour little at a time into the sauce. Cook for few minutes till desired consistency.
  5. Add tomato, capsicum, onion and cook on low heat temperature for few minutes.
  6. Along with vegetables, put the fried prawns in the sauce or serve crispy fried prawns on a side.
